Welcome to the Exercise Garage!
The story of the garage is my personal journey to fitness and health. I will share and review the routines, equipment, and nutrition plans that I personally follow. And where ever I can, I will offer motivation, additional insights, suggestions, and resources.
Let’s get started. My name is Craig Santos.
At the time of this posting, I am 42 years old, married and the father of two. In my “other decades”, I played football, baseball, completed marathons, and even climbed a few mountains. But as time moved on, I allowed everything…and I mean everything…to get in the way of my fitness: laziness, work, family schedule, fast food, beer. I am sure the story is the same for many people – I prioritized everything over my well being.
In late 2009, I mentally started to make a change. I cannot account for what exactly caused the shift, but it happened. The result was a request to my wife for Tony Horton’s P90X program. After years of watching the late night infomercial, I added it to my Christmas list…and Santa delivered!
On January 5th, 2010, my wife and I “pushed play” for the first time and we have never looked back. As of this posting, we are in week 11 of the program and feeling great. I have lost 18lbs, 6% body fat, completely changed my eating habits, and wake up every day looking forward to my workout. Check out my Before and Current pictures. I am proud of these results.
So, why the garage? Two reasons: one practical, one philosophical.
The routines were not going to work in our living room, bedrooms, or basement. It is a turn of the century home and the vaulted ceiling was not yet part of every architects game plan. Our garage was the only place that could provide us with the square footage and overhead space needed to truly “Bring it”.
The other reason for the garage is that it fits with my philosophy of exercise: Simple, Basic, and Accessible. I completely subscribe to theory that basic “push & pull” exercises can build the human form into a masterpiece – Think “Spartan”. The more “processed” the routine (levers, pulleys, club rules and hours) the more difficult (and $$$expensive$$$) you are making your fitness journey. All you really need is adequate space, some basic resistance products, education, and desire.
So there you have it…The Exercise Garage. I hope you find my journey motivating and the information helpful. If I can ever be of service to you, especially if you wish to duplicate my results, please drop me a line or leave a comment.
Cheers!
Craig
